William Tillyer (b1938)
Born in Middlesbrough, he moved to London to study at the Slade School of art in the 1960s. Earning a scholarship, he then went to atelier 17 in Paris to study etching under Stanley William Hayter. On his return he began to experiment with his work, questioning the relationship between nature and man. He specialised in printmaking, with Bernard Jacobsen as his dealer.
