David Hockney (b1937)
Born in Bradford in 1937, Hockney is an internationally acclaimed painter, printmaker, photographer, and stage designer. He studied at Bradford College of Art and the Royal College of Art (1959-62). He taught in the USA in the 1960s, commuting regularly between England and California before taking up residence in LA permanently in 1978. The California lifestyle had a deep influence on his work during this period. Much of his work is autobiographical with self-portraits, as well as showing images of his friends, partners and home.
