Running Suite

Sir Peter Blake CBE, RA (b1932)

A giclee print with screenprinted finish, from the portfolio “Running Suite” commissioned to commemorate 30 years of the Great North Run.  Peter Blake’s mother was born in South Shields (where the race ends), so this is his link to the famous race.

The set features image of the world’s most iconic half marathon, exploring the heritage of running, the event’s human element, its international pedigree, humour and memorabilia. The majority of the images came from the Great North Run archives.

Brendan Foster, the great runner and now BBC commentator, was from the Gateshead Harriers club, referenced in this print.  He thought up the whole idea of the Great North Run.

Each print is signed in pencil and numbered from the edition of 75 and has come straight from the folio box, never framed.
