Head of Henry Moore 1923

Head of Henry Moore 1923

This is a photogravure of a 1923 drawing by Robert Lyon believed to be the earliest known portrait of the great British sculptor Henry Moore.  Lyon and Moore were fellow students in the 1920s at the Royal College of Art and this is when Lyon did the drawing.

Printed by Hugh Stoneman, the photogravure “captures all of the delicacy and sensitivity of the original drawing” (book ‘Hugh Stoneman – the master’s master’).  Another copy can be found in the Falmouth Art Gallery as part of the permanent Stoneman archive.

Printed on cream paper, signed and dated 1923 within the plate.
