Dorian Gray with a Rainbow Scarf
Jim Dine RA (b1935)A vintage 1968 Jim Dine Limited Edition Lithograph on paper with collage which is in many museum collections worldwide. This is a rare work and a real collector’s piece that we are delighted to be offering.
From “The Picture of Dorian Gray Series”, one of Dine’s most important illustrative works, this one is Dorian Gray with a Rainbow Scarf.
Signed in pencil lower right and numbered on the back in ink 103/200. The collage strip is the rainbow down the right hand side.
The lithographs and etchings for the series were prepared on zinc and aluminium plates by the artist at Bath Academy of Art, Corsham in February 1968 and subsequently printed on Velin Arches paper at the Atelier Desjobert and Atelier Leblanc, Paris. Published by Petersburg Press, London;
Measurements: 17 1/2 × 12 in | 44.5 × 30.5 cm
Condition: It should be of course borne in mind that this work is some 55 years old and has been displayed so it will show signs of its age. Photographed in what we believe could be its original wooden frame with worn silver gilt, we removed the work to check for the numbering on the back of the sheet. The lithograph has been hingemounted and will easily lift off its mount. Some light aging of the paper tone which is not by any means distracting as it is even in nature. There looks to be a little light wear on the coloured strip as shown. No foxing.
