Potato Harvest

Josef Herman OBE, RA (1911-2000)

A vintage limited edition Lithograph of a 1959 watercolour of the same name, Potato Harvest.

This work is rarely seen for sale and is a fine example of Herman’s compositions of this era (after his move to Wales) that capture the ‘dignity of the ordinary and the everyday’ showing sculptural body forms with black lines that give the figures a real substance.

It was printed by Graphis Press Ltd, Highbury, London N1 for Roland Browse and Delbanco Cork St art dealers, the Roland family being the original owners of the watercolour.

Provenance: Estate of Roland family – a photo of the printer’s envelope addressed to the dealer in 1960 is shown in the photos

 

Measurements: 275 x 342mm (10 3/4 x 13 1/2in) on wove paper

Condition: never framed and in original condition.   The work is in its own sleeve with the original item detail label.
