Phillips House, Dinton, Wiltshire
Robert Tavener RE (1920-2004)An original watercolour, signed lower right in ink and presented in a gallery moulded gilt frame.
Phillips House (formerly Dinton House) is a National Trust property in Salisbury. A neo-Grecian house from the early 19th century, Grade 2 listed, and designed by Sir Jeffrey Wyatt. At one point it was predominantly used as an artists’ retreat, providing residential art courses for keen amateur and semi-professional painters and the courses were much in demand. Some of Britain’s best contemporary artists such as Tom Coates, Edward Wesson, Ken Paine, Deborah Manifold, and John Yardley provided tuition there.
