For The Love Of Art is all about bringing an ever-changing selection of fantastic modern art to you – at an amazing price.

What we stock changes from one week to the next. We find limited edition prints and originals that we think our customers will not only love, but will also make a great investment – and what makes us different to a high street gallery is that we mainly sell work that we have sourced in the secondary market – you could describe it as ‘second-hand’ but we prefer ‘pre-loved’. This means we can sell at very affordable prices. Some of our works are like new, others may have some signs of being previously displayed, but we always take care to describe the artworks as best we can.

Our customers range from keen art collectors with an eye for a great investment, universities and art schools, to private individuals who are buying a work as a gift or just because they like it enough to hang on their own walls.

Having grown our small, family business on ebay, and established a loyal following with great feedback on our friendly service and quality of artworks, we decided to launch our own website. We are gradually adding our stock to the website but please contact us if you can’t see what you are looking for as we have other works that aren’t displayed here.

Frequently Asked Questions
  • How are items shipped? show-hide FAQ
  • We offer worldwide post & packing using tracked / signed for postal and courier services. The service and cost depends on the size / value of the item and we will provide a cost at the time of enquiry. Most of our prints are unframed and will be rolled in a custom tube (and can be combined with other prints to keep the postage costs down). We are also happy for you to collect in person or through your own courier from our Buckinghamshire address by arrangement.

  • Do you accept returns? show-hide FAQ
  • Yes, we will accept a return within 14 days of delivery. Please contact us first to let us know you want to return an item and we will discuss the best way of returning it. We will provide a refund of the purchase price on safe receipt, but outbound or return delivery costs will not be refunded unless the artwork has been damaged in transit to you or there was an error in the description. Items need to be returned in the condition received and on a tracked /insured service. Your statutory rights are not affected.

  • How do I pay for items? show-hide FAQ
  • We accept cheque, BACS or payment by Paypal. Unfortunately we are not set up to accept credit card payments yet.

  • What is an original limited edition? show-hide FAQ
  • Unlike a painting which is a one off work of art, a limited edition print is a defined quantity of impressions numbered sequentially and hand signed by the artist. An original limited edition is really a work of art in its own right. Each print is carefully printed by the artist or under the artist’s supervision using a number of highly skilled techniques – screenprinting, lithography, relief printing (eg a linocut or woodblock) or intaglio printing (etching or engraving). Once the edition is completed to the artists’s satisfaction, the screen / plate / stone is destroyed so no further copies can be made.

  • What is a screenprint? show-hide FAQ
  • The artist’s design is transferred onto a mesh screen. One colour at a time is forced through the mesh with a blade or squeegee onto the paper underneath. The other areas of the screen are coated with an impermeable substance. Depending on the number of colours required, several screens are used to produce a multi-coloured design. The resulting print is known as a screenprint, serigraph or silkscreen.

  • What is a lithograph? show-hide FAQ
  • The artist draws his image onto a flat stone or metal plate using crayon or oil based ink. Water is lightly applied and is repelled by the greasy material, and then an oil based ink is applied to the whole surface, only adhering to the areas marked with crayon or ink. An impression is then made onto paper. As with screenprinting, a new stone or plate is required for every colour, therefore by the time the final print is complete, it could have been through the press many times over.

  • What is an etching? show-hide FAQ
  • An etching is created by using acid to burn into a copper plate to create a relief design (intaglio). Etchings are easily identified by the plate marks around the image.

  • What is a woodblock / linocut? show-hide FAQ
  • These prints are both produced from relief printing techniques. The artist carves the image into the surface of a piece of lino or wood and then rolls ink over the top. The ink will only cover the ‘un-cut’ parts of the wood or lino. An impression is then made onto paper.

  • What is an artist’s proof? show-hide FAQ
  • If you see the letters “a/p”, “e/a” or the words ‘artists proof’ on a print instead of a number, this is an artists proof copy. It is of equal quality to the limited edition run, and sometimes the artist proofs were retained by the artist who may then sell them at a later date. However it is also common for the a/p editions to be sold alongside the regular editions. In some instances you may see the words ‘archive copy’, ‘trial proof’, ‘hc’ (hors commerce) BAT (bon a tirer) which are all proofs of the limited edition print but retained as printers’ or publishers’ copies which may at some point enter the retail market

  • Can I view or collect an item in person? show-hide FAQ
  • We welcome the opportunity to show you an item in person, or to collect a purchase. This can be organised by prior arrangement with us. We are based in South Buckinghamshire and not easily reached by public transport but are within easy reach of the M40 and M4 motorways.

  • Do your items have provenance? show-hide FAQ
  • Our artworks are carefully sourced from the secondary market. Where available we will happily supply a copy of any paperwork on request - such as auction receipts or CoA - that came with an item. Please contact us if you wish to ask about a particular item.

  • How do you describe the condition? show-hide FAQ
  • We give our opinion on the condition of every print or original and do our best to be as accurate as possible. We are happy to provide additional photographs on request. Please note our descriptions are for the artwork only and not for frames (should the item be framed).
