Light of the World (A)

Robyn Denny (1930-2014)

Large screenprint from 1970, Light of the World (A) from the Light of the World Suite.

Signed in pencil, denoted artists proof xxii/xxv, aside from the edition of 75.

The title refers to the Pre-Raphaelite painting by Holman Hunt which hangs in St Paul’s Cathedral.  The suite of screenprints was based on several large oil paintings Denny exhibited in his retrospective exhibition at the Tate Gallery in 1973 in which interlocking, coloured forms float against a large expanse of monochrome pigment, implying a ‘step’ into imaginary space.

Collections: the Tate, Government Art Collection, University of Warwick Art Collection.

Printed at Kelpra Studios

Measurements: 79 x 72 cm

Condition: Photographed behind glass in its contemporary silver frame, the print appears in excellent condition.
