Corrida Five
Elisabeth Frink RA (1930-93)Corrida Five by Elisabeth Frink (Wiseman 82), a lithograph on paper from 1973.
Printed by Curwen Studios, published by Waddington Graphics. Pencil signed lower right and bearing Curwen Chilford blindstamp. The edition size was 72 – this one is not numbered, just pencil signed (like the example shown on the Tate website).
One from a series of eight bullfighting lithographs inspired by her experiences of bullfights in Arles, France where she had been living since the mid 1960s.
Collections: Tate; Brooklyn Museum
Provenance: The Molesey Gallery, Surrey – old typed gallery label was attached to frame (photo shown – we cannot remove the label from the frame)
Measurements: 57 x 77.5 cm sheet size
Condition: Unframed, on TH Saunders paper, good colours, clean condition with no foxing. It has previously been framed and the mount tape that was used was seemingly not conservation quality as some faint whiter show through is apparent in the shape of the mount tape tabs along the edges. Some slight surface scuffing verso where tabs have been removed. Although the print has these small areas of light differential caused by the mount tape it is nevertheless a beautiful and rare work with the main image unaffected and one of some considerable age and therfore some condition issues are not a surprise!
