Basil Beattie RA (b1935

Large black and white lithograph titled and signed in pencil, numbered 21/24.  Up until this point a painter of vibrant, dense canvases, this was Beattie’s first lithograph, dating from 1984.  It was printed at Curwen Studios.

The image consists of 9 squares or cells, each with symbol-like images inside. Beattie saw this first venture into lithography as an important influence on his paintings: “in a curious way it allowed me to rethink my way of making images and led to a new kind of freedom” (source: The Tate)

 

Measurements: 63 x 90 cm

Condition: In great condition, photographed behind glazing, full sheet visible. Shipping deframed and rolled. Frame can be collected but please note there are some scratches to the perspex.
