Bedford School

Julian Trevelyan RA (1910-1988)

Rare limited edition original lithograph of Bedford School, a famous public school founded in 1552.  We cannot find it elsewhere or sale or find anything about it online. It dates from 1963.

The lithograph is in fantastic strong bright colours, a striking image showing a group of boys playing rugby in front of the imposing architecture of the school.

An unusual departure from Trevelyan’s more common images with the focus on people in this one, so it would make a great addition to a collection.

Signed, titled and numbered from the edition of 100 in pencil.

Measurements: 46.5 x 56 cm plate size

Condition: Image very good, strong colours, the work has not been framed, just kept in storage, some light age related discolouration to the very top edge of sheet, minor, very occasional light and soft storage creasing to margins, minor. Note to the left and right centre margin there are the printer's registration marks, little dots, (see the last two photos) which would have been used to ensure the accuracy of layers of colour in the lithography process.
