Norman Stevens RA (1937-1988)

Norman Stevens was born in Bradford and studied at Bradford Regional College of Art, 1952-57, a fellow student of Hockney and David Oxtoby.  Stevens moved on to study at the Royal College of Art for a further three years and won the Lloyd Landscape and Abbey Minor Travelling Scholarships.  Initially pursuing a career in teaching at art schools in Manchester, Maidstone and Hornsey he decided to focus on his art full time in the mid 1970s, taking up printmaking and rapidly mastering the many different printmaking techniques with considerable skill. Stevens was elected a Royal Academician in 1987 but died the following year.  His work was exhibited in spring 2015 at the Royal Academy.
