Michael Challenger (b1939)
Michael Challenger was born in Kent in 1939. Between 1960-64 he studied at Goldsmiths’ College, London, and then at the Slade School of Art, London, between 1964-66. He then went on to teach at Goldsmith’s from 1968-70 before returning to Slade as a tutor from 1970-72. From the late 1960s Challenger showed his hard-edge geometric prints, paintings and sculpture at the London Arts Gallery, as well as in New York, Detroit and in Verona, Italy, where he kept a studio in the mid-1970s. His work is held in collections around the world including the Tate and the Victoria & Albert Museum.
