Eileen Cooper RA b1953

A graduate of Goldsmiths College of Art (Albert Irvin RA, Basil Beattie RA and Michael Craig-Martin RA were staff at the time), she went on to study painting at the Royal College of Art graduating in 1977.  She became prominent in the 1980s, her studies of figures highly recognisable, and encompassing sexuality, motherhood, life and death as themes.  Cooper went on to teach at St Martins and became an RA in 2000.  She is the first ever female Keeper of the Academy.
