Alistair Grant (1925-1997)
Born in London in 1925 Grant spent his childhood in Etaples (his mother’s home town in Normandy) which was to provide an inspiration for many of his prints and paintings. He studied painting at the Birmingham College of Art (1941-3), moving to the Royal College of Art from 1947-51. Learnt painting under both Carel Weight and Ruskin Spear, and printmaking under Edwin La Dell. In 1955 Grant became a Tutor in the printmaking department, becoming Head of Printmaking and Professor before his retirement in 1990. His work is highly sought after and can be found in numerous public collections, including the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Government Art Collection.
